Host Institute of KVK, Bishnupur

“The Utlou Joint Farming-cum-Pisciculture Co-operative Society Ltd.” which is the host Institute of the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Bishnupur District, was formed at Utlou Village and got registered in 1967-68 under Register No. 22 of 1967-68.

:: Utlou village has a population of about 5000. Most of them are farmers and fishermen and also carry on pisiculture.

:: Utlou village is situated in Bishnupur District on the way to Loktak Lake on National Highway 150. At present, Utlou Village can be considered to be a model village in Manipur.

:: The present Chairman of the Utlou Joint Farming-cum-Pisciculture Co-operative Society Ltd. is Shri Th. Chaoba Singh, Former Dy. Chief Minister of Manipur and Ex-Union Minister. He had started the society for upliftment of the poor farmers. The society has land holding of 25 ha. and has an office complex and sufficient Godown space.

:: The society has helped in the rapid development of the village. Now the village has its own good schools, good roads, drinking water tanks and water supply scheme, playgrounds, electricity, public halls and good communication facilities.

:: The Chairman of the society, Shri Th. Chaoba Singh has been elected continuously for 5 terms as MLA since 1972 and has been a Cabinet Minister and Dy. C.M. of Manipur. He has also been elected to the Lok-Sabha for three terms and has been a Union Minister also.

:: The society has also given some land and buildings to Sports Authority of India (SAG Centre) for Hostel and playing facilities since 2004.

:: The society, as a host institution, in collaboration with the ICAR, New Delhi, established the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Bishnupur District, Utlou in 2003 for the benefit of the farmers and fishermen of the district and the state.
